Learn To Swim Program

Hilliard Pool

3020 Le Tulle

Bay City Parks and Recreation wants you to Learn to Swim!  We offer lessons for residents ages 6 – months and up.  Swim Lessons are offered at the Hilliard Pool in May, June and July.  All classes are held Tuesday – Friday for 8 days.

Learning to swim is an integral part of a child’s safety and development, and swimming is a skill that lasts a lifetime. Swim lessons reduce the risk of drowning and build whole body strength. Exposing a child to swimming at a young age will provide them with a recreational activity they can continue to enjoy throughout the rest of their lives!

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death for children ages one to four, and the second-leading cause for children under 14. Furthermore, according to research conducted by the USA Swimming Foundation, 64% of African-American, 45% of Hispanic/Latino, and 40% of Caucasian children have little to no swimming ability.  With the summer swimming season quickly approaching, it is vital to spread the message about the importance and benefits of learning to swim.

Infant lessons (ages 6 months – 3 years) require a parent or guardian in the water with the child at all times.  The cost for this 8-session, 30-minute class is $35.

Youth lessons for ages 4 – 12 years old are broken down into two categories 3 – 7-year-olds and 8 – 12-year-olds.  The cost for this 8-session 45-minute class is $45.

Session dates:

Session I                         May 31st – June 10th                  evening classes

Session II                       June 14th – 24th                           morning classes
