If you own a car, there is a two part process to getting your driver's license in Texas. First, if you own a vehicle, you need to register your vehicle at the Tax Assessor's office at the Matagorda County Courthouse. Your auto will also need to pass an inspection before it can be registered, and you will need to provide proof that you have insurance. Once your vehicle is registered, you will be able to get your Texas license plates.
Driver's License
Once you have your vehicle registration, you are ready to head over to the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) office to get your Texas driver's license. In most cases, if you have a current driver's license from another state you will not be required to take a driving test.
If you are a foreign student, non-resident visitor or moving in from another country, you may have to take a driving test and there is a list of documents you will need to apply for a Texas driver's license.
